WHAT CLIENTS HAVE TO SAY
"‘Matt Lucas and I first met on the set of the Matrix 4. My body was in pretty rough shape, and basically needed to re-learn how to move in a more healthy and efficient way. Matt was able to teach me so much about the connectivity between muscles, and also how my body relates to my mental and emotional well-being. I wouldn’t have made it through the film without you, thank you Matt!’"
Jessica Henwick
Actor- Matrix 4 "Bugs"
Game of Thrones
"Matt Lucas has been the catalyst I needed to really launch me into my self love journey. He's helped me recognize my own power through fighting techniques, journaling, bodywork, and just by being an incredible mentor. He puts into words the big, ambiguous thoughts & feelings that feel too crazy to even bother explaining.
Matt understands my brain in a way I never thought possible"
Haley Pulos
Actor- General Hospital
"A special one of a kind teacher, he really changed my life. I'm 55 now and in the best mental and physical shape of my life.
This is more than exercise, this is life, or as Matt likes to say: learning resilience in uncooperative environments.
I can't recommend him highly enough for martial arts, yoga, bodywork, general health, diet, mindset, everything. What he's got stored in that weird little brain/body thing he's got going on is mind blowing, and the ways that he breaks it all down into the simplest do-able steps is amazing..."
Matt Clark
Designer/Creative Director
"I've trained martial arts my entire life, and Matt is the guy I work with now...
Matt is not only extremely knowledgeable, he is one of the best martial artists I've ever met."
Isaac Man-Silverman
MEET MATT
The rule Matt lives by is, “If you don’t show up and practice, it’s all BS.” Don’t believe him? Matt has been a martial artist since he was five and became a professional musician at 13. While other people were out drinking or watching TV, Matt was touring with his band and spending nights training martial arts in parks and college campuses. After his nomadic fighting bard period, Matt settled in Oakland, where he opened his dojo, The Open Matt. From this base of operations, he’s been recruited as a trainer for professional athletes and celebrities. For example, matt was a lead stunt performer and trainer for the AMC TV Series, Into the Badlands and the Wellness Trainer for The Matrix: Resurrections. He’s also consulted on de-escalation and communication techniques for Defense Contractors and local law enforcement agencies.
Matt has developed The YAMA System, which blends Yoga and Martial Arts into a complete wellness practice. Matt also teaches emotional intelligence, situational mindfulness, and decision-making under stress. His techniques are used by fighters, celebrities, law enforcement, children, and adults of all levels.
Matt balances the physicality of martial arts and yoga with his love for writing poetry, journaling, songwriting, and exploring beautiful landscapes in his Jeep.
