The Power of: Are You Sure?
Aug 10, 2026
I was at a sales seminar, which, like, why? Am I right? You already know what they’re saying: it’s never anything different; it’s always the same. Limiting beliefs, massive impact, they say CEO and optimize a lot, blah blah. Nonetheless, I’m optimistically there to learn something, and since my eyes are going bad thanks to all the hours of video editing, I sat up front.
The main guy was on stage giving his PowerPoint presentation. Graphs and big numbers up on the giant screen that represented what our bank accounts could look like this year if we just followed this guy’s simple, common-sense, foolproof system.
I was trying to wrap my head around breaking my limiting beliefs as they told me my subscription-based website could become a high-ticket sales engine by the end of the weekend; I wanted to say, “Are you sure?” When they said I need to be putting out 40 pieces of social media content a week, I just wanted to say, “Are you sure?” Are they sure they’re trying to get me successful, or is this all so I can meet Steve Jobs in heaven after this relentless drive to succeed kills me too? I was drowning in graphs, claims of 9 figures, brunch enthusiasm, golf metaphors, and caring about watches. I was feeling like a punk rocker at smooth jazz camp.
Then an animated pop-up came on the screen. It’s the little things that keep me engaged; nice touch. The pop-up was two simple lines: “Power of” at the top, and framed below it was “Are you sure?”
I thought, “Wow, they’re asking it too.”
I started feeling aligned with these guys. Finally.
I perked up and grabbed my journal, my pen, then wrote at the top of the page, “The Power of: Are you sure?”
Just as fast as I clicked my pen, the presenter looked at the AV tech in the back of the room, “You can turn it off.”
The mouse arrow moved to the button right under “Power Off” and clicked “Are you sure?”
The screen went black, and the crowd began their applause.
At the end of each day I ask myself, “What do I know now?”
I need glasses.
